robyn is taking an introductory photography class, and her first assignment was to set aside the complicated digital camera for a few days and just use a disposable film camera. it’s pretty amazing how horrible the viewfinders are in those things, you can’t even begin to frame a shot—well, you *think* you did.. and then you see the prints. "ugh"

but i played along too.. i found the disposable waterproof camera that we bought in aruba 3 years ago and only used 5 photos of. i finished up the roll, and we developed both cameras together. most of my photos didn’t even develop, and the ones that did looked horrible.. but i did get a couple of aruba shots out of the deal. a couple of horribly bad aruba shots. seriously, what was i expecting?

AS whenever artists try to take digital photos and post them online,
there’s attention to pay to how your camera is set, and then what do
you do in Photoshop after, to get the photo to look like the actual
thing in front of your eyes?

Set on "daylight" and shot this day by high-cloud-cover with the
overhead light off, here’s the untouched as to shading/levels; all
that’s been done is cropping and setting to 70% and sizing.
The background has kind of a pinkish cast to it, and the actual reds are truest.

This is my new and first DSLR. After debating for a long time whether I should buy one and drag around or whether I should stick to my little Nikon Coolpix S10 with swivel lens and my daily Nikon Coolpix S3000, I decided to go for the investment. A few weeks ago I could take photos with a Canon DSLR and was amazed anew how good it is to be able to have more control with the lenses.

The decision was not an easy one as I had first thought to buy a different camera. However, in the end the Canon won. So far I am happy with it (almost all pictures in Auckland and at WordCampNZ were taken with the Canon), but need to get into SLR shooting again and refresh my knowledge about aperture, f-stop etc.

OK, I don’t how guys use this toilet, I do not want to know how it is used. But they are simply gross. I hate these old styled toilets, they are just too weird. The one I shot today had to be the most disgusting one I have personally ever seen. It was in the parking lot next to the Chamber of Commerce building. Really gross… Anyway, the premier for Star Wars Episode III in Kuwait is in a couple of hours and I can’t wait to watch it. I don’t know how this happened but for some reason we will be watching it at the theater before the official US release which is in 2 days. Really cool! I mean the Star Wars fans who have been lined up outside the movie theater in the States for months should just have come to Kuwait.

The Postman

Has anyone seen a Kuwaiti postman? How do they look like? Since I was a kid I was always fascinated by this old mailbox located in Salmiya, and I always wanted to see the postman pick up the mail, but I never did. I am not sure if this mailbox is being checked even. For as long as I can remember it was always collections on Sunday at 11AM. In other news, today after lunch I passed by Baskin Robbins and I noticed something very weird. The place looked a lot cleaner, the lights were all on and bright, the brightest I have ever seen the place, it looked new and the biggest shock.. our famous Baskin Robbins employee was not there. Instead there was a new philipino guy in his place. Now I do not know if my blog some how did this, I would like to hope not. I wouldn’t want to be responsible for having a poor employee getting sacked. Maybe I shouldn’t have taken the pictures.. In any case the new employee is really cool and gives nice big scoops of ice cream so thats a good thing.
