Digital photo frames seem to be the latest gift idea but who is buying them? Technology geeks, Boys for their Girlfriends, Girls for their homes, present for Mum?
And why? A great gift? Lots of digital photos but never viewed? Decorate a trendy home? Portfolio of work? Displaying Art?

I haven’t got one – I think they are a bit naff personally. They remind me of those moving waterfall pictures in rubbish curry houses!

How Does a Digital Picture Frame Work?

Digital picture frames are electronic devices that display a slide show of images. Some display video and play music as well. Digital picture frames are shaped like regular picture frames. They have a LCD screen just like a laptop computer. Inside the frame is a basic computer that runs the device.
Uploading Pictures
The method for uploading images to digital picture frames, depends on the particular device. There are three different ways to upload pictures. Some devices provide the capability to upload in more than one way. Some digital picture frames have internal memory. With this method, a computer or camera can be hooked up to the frame. Pictures are uploaded to the frame using software that comes with the frame. The memory slot method uses a memory card with pictures on it. The frame reads the memory card and displays the pictures. Using the Internet method, which is available through WiFi or a direct Internet connection, pictures can be sent through the Internet to the device.
Power Supply
Some digital picture frames work with batteries, while some work with a power plug, and some have the option to use either method. Running off of battery power can be handy if a power source is not readily available. For a frame that is going to be used 24/7, a power plug is more convenient.
Choosing a Digital Picture Frame
Digital picture frames can be purchased for as cheap as and as expensive as 0 and up. The more expensive frame is not necessarily the best frame for each circumstance. To choose the best frame that fits into your budget, look at the following factors: Size requires choosing a frame that will easily fit into the area that you want to use it in. Finally, before purchasing a digital picture frame, decide if the extra features are important to you. Some digital picture frames have the added capability of playing videos and music.
