I’m also hoping to get into art college for the next school year so having a good camera would be great for this.

Does anyone know of any good ‘starter’ cameras, and how much, along with basic kit, it is going to cost? I have heard that Nikon and Canon are good for SLR’s, does anyone have any experience?

You know, if you are not looking for a specific feature or brand that is unique to a particular model, I would say any entry level DSLR is going to be great.

There are a lot of fans for each brand: Pentax, Fuji, Sony, and of course most common Canon and Nikon.

I actually bought a Rebel XT few months ago, and am kind of dissatisfied with it overall. My friend bought a Nikon D60 and she likes it, but still, shallow depth of field and frequent out of focus shots.

I used to have Powershot A 60 which had a much higher success rate.

Right now you can get a Canon XTI or XSI for 600-800$, or the Nikon D40 for 460$. The Radio Shack here in LA has them for that price.

P.S. Have you considered Canon S5IS? It’s almost an SLR, and I think has some major advantages. I think I will be buying one eventually.

Question by Charlie: Can I file a complaint?
I want to file a dispute with ebay but I want to see advice before I do it first.

I purchased a Samsung D75 Digital camera for £25.00 with an additional £3.50 postage and packaging. The item was originally priced at £29.99 again with a £3.50 postage and packaging but with the ”make an offer” option I was able to purchase the camera for the first price I quoted.

The reason I am cross is because I specifically bought that item as I required the camera urgently (and it was a low price) and it says specifically on the advertisment that it would come ”Royal Mail 1st class recorded delivery”. Of course I was slightly miffed when it didn’t come the next day as it hindered my work (I have a buisness on ebay and my other camera broke which is why I bought the item) but I am furious that it still has not come despite ensuring that someone was in on two consecutive days to sign.

Now I want my money back. Either I want a refund for the postage and packaging which he falsely advertised as 1st class Royal Mail recorded delivery, a discount on the camera or a full refund. He has my money and I am left losing money over the weekend.

What can I do?

I don’t know what “the rules” are in the UK but in the USA a person is dealing with the seller of the item – not eBay itself. If you have a complaint like that here you must take it up with the seller.

Question by monkeyman_90210: hi, I am thinking of purchasing an SD Card Digital Video Camera. I see that it records video at 720×480……
and at 20fps. Wondered what this quality is like in comparison to seeing a DVD movie for example.
Are there any examples of footage shown in this resolution to get a guide of how good/bad it is ?

Is this typically YouTube standard ?

Youtube standard is way, way, way below this. It doesn’t even come close.

However, DVD standard is slightly higher. Typical DVD resolution is 720×480 but typically they can achieve 24, 30 or 60 FPS.

If you are fussy, this means that your recorded videos will appear slightly ‘jumpier’ than a standard DVD, but the actual image quality should be equivalent.

From the way you ask the question, and from your reference to YouTube, I would suggest you would be more than happy with the quality of videos this would produce, particularly if you have a good tv to enjoy them on
