Question by Dan: Cheap digital camera, good quality, please help!?
I’m going to Iceland this Friday on a school trip, and I was planning to take the camera that my dad gave to my sister.
However, with fully charged batteries the LCD screen is just black, in other words, as per usual, my sister has broken a perfectly decent piece of technology.
As this is such a once in a lifetime oportunity, I need to get a new digital camera fast, one that takes good videos and pictures, good sized screen, and one that will help me to remember this trip for the rest of my life!
It preferably needs to be under £100, maybe around £60-70?
Any suggestions? Thanks!

What do you think? Answer below!

Go to Argos.co.uk and type Nikon L16, they’ve got it for around £30 something £, it used to be over 50 i’m waiting for it to get in stock, but it might be available in your area so check it out.
On that budget..
Canon Powershot A580 or A590is… They are both under £100 and are great cameras.
The Canon 590is is definitely one of your best options, but you’ll do well to find it in a normal shop for less than £100 – I assume you’ve no time to order online and get it delivered in time.
You’d also have to factor in rechargeable batteries – £10-15 from Jessops, for example. And a memory card if you don’t already have a suitable one. I would think a 1GB card would be minimum, although if you’re intending on shooting and storing videos as well, you’ll probably need a 2GB or 4GB if they are suitable for the camera. That is, unless you’ll use it for a day’s shooting then transfer your files to eg a laptop in the evening to make more space on your card.
An older Canon would do you well – my brother has a 560 which produced good photos and reasonable videos – but you’ll have great trouble finding it on sale anywhere now, and it lacks image stabilisation.
The rechargeable batteries are important with the Canon 560, 590 etc (many cameras have their own rechargeable battery already inside) because normal batteries don’t last as long and it’s way more expensive in the long run using batteries you can only use once.
Image stabilisation is important if you have shaky hands, you’re using the zoom or not using the flash in low light.
